We care about Aflac’s policyholders affected by the recent weather:

To help provide relief for California policyholders residing in Santa Cruz County who were affected by the coastal storms, Aflac will provide a premium grace period starting Dec. 23, 2024, and ending Apr. 15, 2025. This grace period also provides an extension of filing deadlines for claims and leniency for any other action required under the policy. Aflac will provide a replacement copy of the policy upon request by the policyholder.

For Network Dental and Vision Members:

This grace period also provides an extension of filing deadlines for claims; relaxation of prior authorization, precertification, and referral requirements; access to appropriate out-of-network providers due to unavailability on in-network providers or the members’ displacement; and leniency for any other action required under the certificate. A replacement copy of the certificate will be provided upon request by the certificate holder. Affected members should contact Aflac Benefit Solutions (formerly Argus Dental and Vision) at 855-819-1873, Option 1, for assistance.

How does cancer insurance work, and what does it cover?

Cancer insurance is a supplemental policy, or additional coverage that can help fill in the gaps and cover expenses that your health insurance plan doesn’t cover. Aflac cancer insurance policies provide cash benefits that can give you financial assistance as you receive cancer treatments.

You can use these benefits to pay for:

  • Wellness screenings and tests
  • Hospital stays
  • Prescription drugs and medications
  • Mental health services
  • Mortgage and utility bills
  • Loan payments
  • Childcare
  • Transportation costs
  • Groceries
  • Any other necessary expenses

For example, imagine Mary, a single mother, is diagnosed with breast cancer. While her health insurance covers most of her medical treatments, she still faces additional costs like transportation to chemotherapy appointments, childcare during her hospital stays, and everyday expenses like groceries and utility bills. With Aflac cancer insurance, Mary can receive cash benefits that help ease the financial burden, allowing her to focus on her recovery without worrying about how to make ends meet.

Why cancer insurance is worth it

The Affordable Care Act mandates that insurers cover cancer treatment, even as a pre-existing condition.1 However, there are still many associated costs not covered by health insurance. Supplemental cancer insurance can help you save money on living expenses and related healthcare costs that aren’t covered by health insurance.

Cancer insurance may be particularly worth it if:

  • You’re not financially prepared to cover out-of-pocket costs associated with cancer treatment.
  • You risk losing income if you’re unable to work for an extended treatment period.
  • Cancer runs in your family, making you at higher risk of diagnosis.
